A Question of Discovery

A Message from our Leaders

At its core, research is about asking questions – and our teams at Women’s College Research Institute (WCRI) and the Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV) are asking tough questions. Questions that strive to get to the heart of the health gaps faced by women and people from marginalized communities. Questions that seek to understand how we can provide better, more compassionate care; how we can create a health system that’s more responsive to patient needs; and how we can integrate virtual care and digital health tools into the health system effectively. Questions about how we can ensure that everyone has access to the care they need, when they need it and where they need it.

Our scientists, innovation fellows and clinicians are asking questions that have the power and potential to transform healthcare. Their discoveries are improving clinical practice, creating new treatment options and developing innovations for the future of healthcare and our health system. Their work reaches far beyond our hospital walls into communities across our province, throughout Canada, and around the world.

Our research and innovation work is also inspiring our donor community to step forward in support of Women’s College Hospital. From monthly donors who are providing a steady stream of funding, to leadership-level investments directed toward specific programs, we are privileged to partner with generous supporters who share this hospital’s belief in the power of asking courageous questions.

Some of our donors are compelled to give as a direct result of research excellence that has translated into the evidence-based care they received here at Women’s College Hospital, while others are energized by the promise of innovation and new ideas to fix the health system. We have the privilege of working with an extraordinary community of donors who share our passion for discovery and believe in our vision of a healthier, more equitable world for everyone.

To all of our research and innovation colleagues across the organization who are asking the tough questions every day, and to all of the donors who make it possible to find the answers to these questions, we thank you.

In our 2019 Research + Innovation Report, you will read about our work and gain a deeper understanding of how what starts as a question ignites a quest for discovery with real-world impact.
